Trying to update firmware on UBOOM L, USB3 port not connecting

Trying to update firmware on UBOOM L,

Fully charged. USB3 data cable.

When I try to use USB3 port, it constantly connects and disconnects. I have tried multiple ports from multiple sides of the PC. Do not have access to another PC.

When I try to use USB2 port, it seems to connect fine and ready. But trying to "download" fails with: 
DEVICE5:1014 DOWNLOAD_ADFUS_FAILED("None" in fwsp.BaseFirmwareOP.ADFUS(fwsp.py, line 376))

Any clues?
